As you may have heard times and times again, our body is made of a huge amount of water (generally 50% to 65% for men and 45% to 60% for women according to Livestrong.com). So I let you imagine how important it is to drink water every day!
Drinking water helps you clean your body, boost your metabolism and can contribute to your weight loss journey! It’s also really important to regulate your body temperature and blood pressure, etc. Remember that your body is losing water every time you’re digesting, sweating or even breathing, so you need to make sure to stay hydrated!
Which is why you should drink 2 liters of water daily on average. I don’t know about you, but I have to admit that I generally drink less than that… Why? Because I forget to drink!
Therefore, I decided to share with you tips to help you drink enough water per day. Tips that helped me as well, so I can guarantee you that it works!
Let’s go to the point!
6 ways to drink more water every day
Put a timer on or set reminders
I mean why not?! You may have reminders for friend’s birthday or to just even take your medicines, so why not to remind you to drink water? You can easily set up some reminders on your phone or even your computer at work. The other option here is to use a timer. For instance, let it ring every hour or every 2 hours just to give you a little reminder to drink.
Leave your glass in a visible place
If you’re at work, let your glass of water on your desk; if you’re at home, leave it on your desk or the table you are using to work and every time you see it, you should remember to drink something.
The trick is here to refill it every time that it gets empty. This way, you will constantly have a glass full of water with you to remind you to drink it. If it’s in front of your eyes, you can’t miss it, so you should remember to drink more often.
Make your water fancy
No one said that only plain natural water counts! You can easily make it fancier or adapt it to something that would suit your taste more. If you’re bored with water, alternate with other drinks like tea, infusions or sparkling water for instance.
You can also prepare infused water. You probably have seen these a lot in bars and pubs lately. The concept is easy: take a carafe of water and add cut fruits in it. Let it infused an hour and drink it! The fruits will give an extra taste to the water.
My favorite options of infused waters (top 5) are:
1. Lemon and mint
2. Grapefruit and lemon
4. Basilic and berries
5. Orange and lemon
Drink a full glass before every meal
This one is an easy one. Every time you eat or snack, drink a full glass of water before starting eating. First of all, you should feel less hungry and eat a bit less, and second of all, you would reach your daily water intake.
People always remember to eat, so use it as a reminder to drink (as well) is an easy option.
Keep a bottle of water with you at all times
This is an important one. You should always keep a bottle of water with you at all times. It’s even more important if you are traveling. It can be really hot in the tube, the train or even the cab and if you don’t feel well, you should always have something to drink to help you.
It is also important to have something to drink with you as generally, you don’t have the possibility to buy water in the tube, the train or the car. It’s better to have one and not use it, rather than not having one and needing/wanting water.
By having water with you, you might even save someone’s life. You never know what can happen, and I can guarantee you it happens a lot that people don’t feel well in the tube and having someone offering them water (because they don’t have any themselves) is really helping. I’ve seen it so many times, so don’t underestimate it. You never know, it could happen to you one day to need water urgently for yourself or someone else.
I would suggest here to use reusable bottles (metal are my favorites but you also have plastic options). You can even use infuser transportable bottles like this one, for instance. It’s better than to use small plastic bottles as it creates plastic waste. Let’s save the planet! 🙂
Yes, people generally drink water… but don’t forget that you can also eat it! How? By eating veggies and fruits with a high volume of water in it.
This can be a good option if you don’t really like drinking water. It’s easy to add a fruit at the end of your meal, to add one to your meal or even get a fruit to replace a snack. Here are some options: cucumbers, watermelons, grapefruits, tomatoes, strawberries, oranges, lettuce, coconuts, etc.
Here it is! I hope this will help you drink more water every day! I also hope it helped you understand how important water is for your body (if you didn’t know it before at least). Now, it’s up to you to decide which one of these tips would work better for your body and for your lifestyle. Good luck!
